Marvel's Jessica Jones |
I've had reservations about Jessica Jones at first. But thankfully, I got over them. It's now one of my favorite shows. After all, it features a female superhero. What's not to love?
Don't worry, there are no spoilers here.
Jessica Jones: A Neo-Noir Drama |
have been binge watching Jessica Jones for the past two days, thanks to the week-long bed rest imposed by my dentist following the extraction of my wisdom teeth.
As I've said, I've had reservations at first. Probably because some people say that there's too much gore in it. But like what I've also said, I got over these reservations and I started watching it. Before I knew it, I was deeply engrossed in the movie, finishing one episode after another.
Jessica Jones is not as warm and bright as Supergirl. It's definitely dark. But like Supergirl, Jessica Jones transforms the image of women. Finally, women are no longer portrayed as damsels in distress but are also capable of saving the people they love and sure, the entire world.
With super strength, Jessica Jones is definitely no damsel in distress! |
But unlike Supergirl, Jessica Jones is more effective in terms of breaking the double standard. She is flawed, aware of her limitations and is a complex character who is not afraid of what society thinks of her. She's independent and she needs no saving. But in spite of all these, Jessica Jones remain capable of loving the people around her
Isn't this what the modern woman should be after all?
