Finally! A female superhero!
If you perceive Supergirl as anything less than excellent, isn't the real problem: you?
I am a fan of both Arrow and The Flash. Imagine my delight when I first saw the trailer of Supergirl. The show finally premiered last week and the second episode aired in the United States a few hours ago.
Let me give you a brief background about Supergirl. The story focuses on, well, Supergirl, aka Kara Zor-El, the cousin of Superman. Supergirl was initially sent to Earth as her cousin's protector but somehow lost her way. She arrived twenty years later when her cousin already made a name for himself. As such, she felt like she already lost her purpose. She complains about wanting do something more than just making coffee for her boss.
I love the way Supergirl paints women. Finally, women are no longer just damsels who need saving. At last, women take the lead, fighting the bad guys and saving the day without having to sacrifice their own happiness. In the same way, it also conveys powerful messages of empowerment not just through Supergirl but through her boss, Cat Grant and her sister, Alex Danvers as well. It also helps a lot that Supergirl's outfits are very pretty. Especially her costume!
It is not perfect though. Its pilot is not as captivating as that of Arrow's or The Flash's though. Still, Supergirl is something to look out for.
Here's the trailer for those who haven't seen it yet. :)
