Power Dressing 101

8:17 PM

The workplace is no exception. You must look good to feel good. Enter Power Dressing.

What is power dressing? Power dressing is something that first surfaced during the 1980s. Its main objective: to create and structured silhouettes for women in the workplace. Basically, it is about looking sharp in the workplace to help you make your point: you mean business. While some say that power dressing has long been gone, I share the view of most stylists that it is more relevant now.
Undeniably, power dressing reflects the paradigm shift that has accompanied the emergence of new opportunities for women.

Tips on Power Dressing after the jump!

Here are some tips to help you power dress:

1. Pick those that are made with fabric that don't wrinkle easily.

The first rule to power dressing is to make sure that what you are wearing does not geat wrinled easily. After all, nothing says "unprofessional" like a wrinkled dress,

2. Office wear need not be boring

I could not imagine myself wearing an office suit before. I find them boring. Power dressing, however, need not be boring. To look professional, one need not stick to neutrals. Rather, one can put a little color into her wardrobe, provided they are not too loud. Classy accessories like simple belts, earrings, necklaces and bracelets could also help make office wear more fun.

3. Avoid glittery makeup

Need I say more? As I said, you wanted to look sharp in the workplace to drive your point across, not to go to a party.

4. Make sure you have the proper handbag for work

Sure, you have different bags at home. Sure, they all have designer brands. But are they appropriate for work? Professionals should avoid bringing sling bags to work. To look more professionals, a structured tote bag is highly suggested.

There's nothing wrong with dressing comfortably. But there's nothing wrong with having a little fun with what you wear either. I do not believe that good looks and image have nothing to do with success. Of course, going to work in your sneakers and polo shirt may damage your professional image. But dressing up for work need not be boring. You can of course still mix and match. Let your image at work say, I got this.

That, my dears, is power dressing.
