It was in June when my
family visited Puerto del Sol in Bolinao, Pangasinan. We’ve never been to this
part of the country. When I heard that it was in Pangasinan, I immediately
assumed that it was somewhere near Manaoag. But it was not. It was further
North, located in the so-called “nose” of the Philippines. In fact, the resort
informed us that the trip from Manila to Bolinao would take approximately eight
hours.
We left Manila by 4AM. Since it was the long weekend, we assumed that we would be stuck in
traffic. Fortunately, we did not. We reached our first stop over, Hacienda
Luisita, at around 6AM where we also had breakfast.
In an hour, we were back on
the road. We followed the instructions given to us by the hotel. We passed
through several towns in the province of Tarlac and Pangasinan. It was
definitely one of the longest drives we’ve had.
We’ve finally seen the sign
directing us towards Puerto Del Sol at around 12NN. We were very hungry. We
were told that it would probably take 30 minutes more before we reach our
destination. Good thing, there was a local restaurant by the side of the road.
We stopped and had our lunch there. At first, there were very people. Soon
enough, however, the restaurant was filled with people, both Balikbayans and
locals, who like us, are probably tired from the long drive up North.
As this is a throwback post,
I apologize for my failure to remember the lovely restaurant where we had our
lunch. It’s the first restaurant to you see though after turning left from
these signs (the restaurant is likewise to your left).
Since my head is also
aching from the long drive, I did not get to enjoy the food there. Do try the
Crispy Bangus though, it is the best!
At one in the afternoon, we
were back on the road. Soon enough, beamch resorts line the road we were passing
by. Finally, we were in Puerto del Sol.
We stayed in one of the
Casitas which fronts the main pool of the resort. There’s actually a newer
portion of the resort (Sitio Amore) where the infinity pool is located. Since
it was summer, Sitio Amore was fully booked.
Nevertheless, we enjoyed the beautiful and relaxing infinity pool. We spent the entire afternoon by the beach as we waited for the sun to set.
Because of the low tide, people made it towards what already seemed like the middle of the ocean. While we didn't get to enjoy water sports, it was truly a relaxing experience, spending time with the family, away from the hustles and bustles of the city.
It feels like we spent so little time in this beautiful paradise. Looking back, I realized that there are other things to do in Bolinao. Alas, we had to go back to Manila the following day due to our hectic schedule.
